Myths about boudoir / lingerie photography

1. My pictures will end up on the internet

If you haven't read our blog post about model releases, then let me sum it up for you. You photos will always remain 100% private and in your control to whom would see them. Unless of course if you would like us to share you images, then we do have a model release you can sign (which gives you nice discounts off your session). This allows us to use your images in our private group, website, social media marketing and studio displays. Don't worry though, you will still get full say in which images you would like to be used!

2. You have to get naked!

Well, you can....But it isn't required. If you do want to do nude boudoir, our style is always in a tasteful fashion. We can do tastefully exposed or implied nudity which is where you will be covered by bed sheets or posing positions. However, boudoir doesn't have to be nude, anything that you feel sexy and confident in is a go for boudoir. Cocktail dresses, midriff shirts, jackets, shorts, pajamas and of course it doesn't hurt to have a bra and pantie set or sexy lingerie.

It is completely up to you if you go nude or not. Some women like to decide during the session.

3. You have to be skinny to do boudoir

Let me just say that boudoir is for everybody! Whether you are petite, curvy, slim, tall, or plentiful; it's all about capturing your true beauty and accentuating your best features. We want to get a private glimpse of the real you! To say that "I need to lose weight first" or "wait until I've lost my baby fat" is a myth. You're beautiful now! Boudoir is not about being sexy, it's about feeling sexy and embracing who you are today!

4. You have to be young to do boudoir

Well...of course you have to be at least 18 years old to do a boudoir session, but that certainly does not mean you have to be 18! Boudoir is for any woman of any age who wants to embrace their beauty and grab some confidence. We have seen very self conscious young women walk out of a boudoir session with such high self esteem, and we have seen middle aged and older women embrace their present self. It truly is rewarding, not just for each and every client we have but for ourselves as boudoir photographers.

5. You need to have a lot of confidence in front of the camera

OK. I'm just going to say it. Professional models are actually hard to work with. I mean they are good at what they do and have boat loads of experience, but it almost comes across as unnatural and rushed. We don't run like a factory line, punching out images and moving on. The boudoir experience is personal, comfortable and relaxing. We want you to ease into the moment and absorb the feeling. We want your images to tell your story and be personal to you. Confidence in front of the camera is rare, so don't stress. It won't take long during the session before you're not even thinking about the camera and you're in that boudie zone!

6. You need someone to gift your photos to

While a good reason to do a boudoir session is to give that special someone a gift they'll NEVER forget! It certainly isn't the only reason. Remember, a boudoir session is more about yourself. It is a journey of self discovery. A self love experience. This is your time to be selfish for once and do something for yourself.

We love it when women tell us that this is something for themselves. That they want to discover their strong, powerful, beautiful and fierce feminine side.

Even if it is an anniversary or wedding gift, don't worry, shhh 🤫😉, we won't let them know that you got something out of it too!

7. Boudoir is something you only do once

False! Boudoir can be addictive. Women walk away feeling confident and good about themselves and they get tastefully done pictures to show for it. For this reason, it isn't uncommon for women to have a second or third boudoir session. In fact, some women like to document each decade of their life. They'll have boudoir photos taken in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's...etc.
